Job Description

We are seeking to appoint Chaplains to our Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Team Bank, to support the team in the provision of spiritual, religious and pastoral care to service users, patients, carers and colleagues. 

We are looking for a person with considerable pastoral skills, a commitment to multi-faith working, a proven ability to minister to people of any faith or none, and the ability to work alongside a variety of healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary team.

This is an opportunity for chaplains who have existing experience in mental health chaplaincy and/or can demonstrate working in a mental health context to deliver spiritual, religious and pastoral care.

 Duties include:

  • To identify and make provision as part of the chaplaincy team for the pastoral, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and service users.
  • To work effectively in situations in which individuals suffer from challenging and debilitating mental and emotional distress.
  • To provide compassionate support, pastoral care, and encouragement 
  • To be available as required to support the head of chaplaincy in providing religious or cultural advice to the Trust.
  • To maintain up to date understanding, knowledge, and skill set for chaplaincy in healthcare, and continuing professional development.
  • To work with the head of chaplaincy and all members of the chaplaincy team to provide specialist pastoral, emotional, spiritual, and religious care to service users, carers, and staff within the context of a mental health inpatient setting.
  • To attend and contribute to chaplaincy team meetings and supervision as required
  • To provide compassionate support, pastoral care, and encouragement for patients and service users 

Experience and skills Required

Essential criteria

  • Must have access to a car and be able to drive
  • Able to maintain a non-judgmental and pastorally sensitive stance in all situations.
  • Able to provide high quality pastoral and spiritual care to service users of any religious or belief organisation.
  • Relevant experience in a religious/teaching leadership role
  • Experience of Mental Healthcare Chaplaincy
  • Understanding of key concepts such as spirituality, spiritual care and holistic health care needs

Desirable criteria

  • Competent computer skills and be familiar and confident in working with the virtual platforms such as Teams and Zoom.
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Conflict Resolution Training
