Job Description

Kisharon Langdon are a newly merged charity offering a wider breadth of services of enhanced quality, enabling us to better support people with learning disabilities and autism and their families.  

The Role

The Jewish Living Assistant will work to ensure people we support are asked, listened to and supported with the religious and cultural ways they wish to live their lives, and work with your manager to ensure staff are fully trained, and knowledgeable to support them.

This role will be responsible for monitoring the social and work activities of people we support to ensure an appropriate adherence to individual Jewish expectation. Additionally, The Jewish Living Assistant will complete regular checks to ensure that supported living sites and other Kisharon Langdon sites, e.g. Rectory Lane, are adhering to the Kisharon Langdon Kashrus Policy.

Key Responsibilities 

Dynamic Education 

  • Build strong, positive relationships and fully collaborate with and include people we support and colleagues in all aspects of your work, including families where appropriate. 
  • Impart to staff and enthuse them that enabling people to fulfil their religious wishes in a person-centred way is central to fulfilling our vision and mission. 
  • Pro-actively plan and organise that people are enabled to observe Shabbos, all Yomim Tovim, davening, etc. according to their wishes, making sure all necessary actions have been organised in advance. Monitor and report on this to the managers. 
  • Run staff training sessions on Jewish Living. 

 Promoting and Enhancing a Jewish Atmosphere 

  • Working alongside the Head of Jewish Living and Community, share information about communal opportunities and assist with planning to ensure people are supported to take part in activities that are socially / religiously / culturally relevant to them in the community. 
  • Promote the availability and appreciation of Jewish Life and celebration of Shabbos and Yomim Tovim amongst staff and people we support, in a positive and inclusive atmosphere. 
  • Encourage and support people to develop and maintain relationships with people that matter to them, e.g. Rabbi or Shul friends where relevant. 
  • Assist the volunteer team and Head of Jewish Living and Community with recruitment and engagement of local volunteers and Shabbos/Yomim Tovim hosts to enhance the offer we deliver. 

Experience and skills Required

About You 

The successful applicant should be educated to GSCE level (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics, or have equivalent experience in a similar position. It would be desirable if you possess experience working with people with learning disabilities.  

Applicants must be able to build strong and positive working relationships with people we support, their families and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and at all levels and the ability to adapt according to individual need.  

You will be able to demonstrate a strong background and advanced knowledge of Orthodox Jewish observance, as well as the ability to train and motivate staff regarding the religious practices. Flexibility and the ability to work evenings and weekends is essential for this role.
